Roza View Hybridizing
One of the things I'm passionate about is hybridizing. I find that too many dahlias don't do well in the heat of central Washington State and so I'm on a mission to develop varieties that do. I've been trying to hybridize varieties that fit this standard for the last 3 years. The first year was an abysmal failure and I hated everything. 2023 was a bit more successful and in my opinion 2024 even more so.
Here I plan to share some of my successes and failures. As you know, a large percentage of seedlings are not good quality, so the more you plant the better your odds are of finding a beauty. In 2025 I plan to plant hundreds of seeds I've saved from my own garden. I largely let the bees do the pollinating, but I am planning to try my hand at intentional pollination this year. Here are a few seedlings over the last few years that I'm keeping an eye on.
